Most women will be a victim of at least one violent crime during their life!
Rape:
- a rape occurs every 6 minutes
- approximately 1/3 of all rapes happen in or near the victim's own home
- approximately 1/2 of all rapes are during first dates or casual dates
Assault and Battery:
- more than 3 million women are battered each year
- a woman is beaten about every 18 seconds
- 84% of women assaulted knew their attacker
Burglary:
- around 12,000 incidents of "distraction burglary" occur each year - this is where caller gets into homes and then steals cash or valuables while the owner is distracted ("con men" pretending to do work in the victim's home)
